The photograph captures an unusual informal maritime scene. Valdés is pictured aboard a boat with several other men, including two seated beside him on the upper deck and additional individuals visible below.

Unlike the official portraits and press photographs more commonly associated with Cuban political figures of the period, this photograph documents a casual moment aboard a vessel and has the character of a privately circulated period photograph.

Ramiro Valdés Menéndez (1932–2026) was a participant in the Cuban revolutionary movement who subsequently held numerous senior positions in the Cuban government.

The photograph is a period black-and-white photographic print with distinctive scalloped edges. The reverse bears extremely faint repeating marks or impressions, possibly associated with photographic processing or a studio, but they are not sufficiently legible for attribution.

The precise date, location, vessel, photographer and identities of the other individuals pictured have not been established. The photograph is conservatively dated circa 1960s based on its photographic characteristics and apparent period context.

Condition: Vintage used condition with age toning, surface wear, scattered staining/foxing, handling marks and areas of discoloration. More pronounced staining is visible across portions of the upper image. The scalloped edges show minor wear. The reverse has light staining and extremely faint repeating marks or impressions.
