Historic 1899 Cuba U.S. Administration Overprint Stamp Group

An attractive group of four Cuban postage stamps issued during the United States administration of Cuba following the Spanish-American War.

The stamps were produced using contemporary United States postage stamps overprinted “CUBA” and surcharged in Cuban currency.

This group includes:

• 1c de Peso – Benjamin Franklin, green
• 2c de Peso – George Washington, red
• 3c de Peso – Andrew Jackson, purple
• 5c de Peso – Ulysses S. Grant, blue

These provisional issues represent an important transitional period in Cuban postal history and are particularly appealing to collectors of Cuba, U.S. possessions, Spanish-American War material, and Caribbean postal history.
