1948 Cuba Eduardo Chibás Partido Ortodoxo Joaquín Vázquez Political Flyer

Original Cuban political campaign card from the historic 1948 presidential election, promoting engineer Joaquín Vázquez as a Partido del Pueblo Cubano (Ortodoxo) candidate for Representative from Oriente and Eduardo Chibás for President of Cuba.

The card features a portrait of Joaquín Vázquez alongside the wording:

“Orientales – Tu Representante – Ingeniero Joaquín Vázquez – Por Trabajo Honesto Para Los Cubanos – Chibás Presidente.”

The upper right displays the distinctive emblem of the Partido del Pueblo Cubano (Ortodoxo), the political movement founded by Eduardo Chibás in 1947 on an anti-corruption and political reform platform.

Eduardo Chibás ran for President of Cuba in the 1948 general election with Roberto Agramonte as his vice-presidential running mate. Despite the newly organized party and a remarkably short campaign, Chibás received more than 320,000 votes and established the Ortodoxos as a major force in Cuban politics.

This surviving campaign piece promoted the national candidacy of Chibás together with the congressional candidacy of engineer Joaquín Vázquez in Cuba's former Oriente Province.

An evocative piece of pre-Revolution Cuban political ephemera documenting one of the most influential political movements of the late Republican period.

Condition: Original vintage condition with substantial age-related toning and staining, surface wear, creasing and edge/corner wear. The portrait, party emblem and printed campaign text remain clear and fully legible. Reverse is blank and shows additional age-related staining and handling wear.
