1951 Cuba Air Mail Souvenir Sheet – Carlos J. Finlay – Green Overprint – Repertorio Médico-Habanero

Original 1951 Republic of Cuba Air Mail souvenir sheet produced by applying a distinctive green commemorative overprint to the earlier 1940 Repertorio Médico-Habanero centennial souvenir sheet.

The green overprint features an airplane and “CORREO AÉREO”, together with a large commemorative inscription honoring the Martyrs of Science and Dr. Carlos J. Finlay in connection with the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the transmitting agent of yellow fever.

The overprint includes the dates 1901–1951 and the inscription “HONOR A LOS MARTIRES DE LA CIENCIA.”

The underlying sheet contains four imperforate stamps — two 2-centavo and two 5-centavo denominations — originally issued for the centennial of the historic Cuban medical publication Repertorio Médico-Habanero (1840–1940).
