1961 Cuba 10 Pesos Banknote – Che Guevara Signature – Máximo Gómez – P-96a

An original 1961 Banco Nacional de Cuba 10 Pesos banknote featuring the distinctive “Che” signature of Ernesto Che Guevara, issued during the period when Guevara served as President of Cuba's National Bank.

This historic Cuban banknote is cataloged as Pick P-96a. The 1961 variety carries the signatures of Ernesto “Che” Guevara and Orlando Díaz Astaraín.

The front features a finely engraved portrait of Máximo Gómez, the celebrated military leader of Cuba's independence movement. The serial number is E27 121722.

The reverse is especially striking, depicting the Declaration of Havana of September 2, 1960, with a massive public gathering and a speaker addressing the crowd against a Havana city backdrop.

One of the note's most desirable historical features is the small “Che” signature appearing above the title Presidente del Banco. This is the official printed/facsimile signature used on the banknote and should not be confused with a personally handwritten autograph.
