c.1900–1906 Cuba El Árbol de la Paz Santiago – Early Undivided Back Postcard

Early Cuban postcard depicting El Árbol de la Paz (The Peace Tree) in Santiago de Cuba, an important historic site associated with the 1898 surrender of Santiago during the Spanish-Cuban-American War.

The image shows the famous ceiba tree and the memorial enclosure at the site where negotiations and events surrounding the capitulation of Santiago took place in July 1898.

This is an early undivided-back Cuban postcard. The reverse is headed “UNIÓN POSTAL UNIVERSAL / UNION POSTALE UNIVERSELLE / CUBA” and instructs that only the address be written on that side, a format characteristic of the early postcard period.

The card bears the printed number 79240 on the reverse.
