c.1908 Havana Cuba President’s Palace & Senate – Harris Bros. No. 26 Postcard

Antique early-20th-century Cuban postcard depicting the President’s Palace and Senate Building in Havana, published by Harris Bros. Co., Habana.

Numbered 26, the beautifully colored view shows the historic governmental complex surrounding Havana’s Plaza de Armas, with landscaped grounds, pedestrians and horse-drawn transportation visible in the foreground.

The building identified on period postcards as the President’s Palace is the historic Palace of the Captains General, which served as Cuba’s presidential residence during the early years of the Republic before the later Presidential Palace came into use.

The reverse carries the classic “República de Cuba – Tarjeta Postal – Union Postale Universelle” divided-back format and identifies Harris Bros. Co., Habana as publisher. It contains an original handwritten message signed with initials and addressed simply to “Emma,” but has no postage stamp or cancellation and therefore appears to have been unmailed.
