Rare 1986 Cuban Dedeté No. 11 – Ajubel Fidel Castro Satirical Cover – Suppressed Issue

Scarce original 1986 issue of Dedeté, Cuba's celebrated satirical and graphic-humor publication, featuring the controversial Ajubel caricature of Fidel Castro on the cover.

Published in Havana as No. 11, Segunda Generación, for the second half of August 1986, this remarkable issue survives from one of the most notable episodes in the history of Cuban graphic satire.

The cover depicts Fidel Castro as an enormous military figure striding through a landscape filled with discarded and damaged objects. Cuban artist Ajubel (Alberto Morales Ajubel) created the controversial illustration.

Historical accounts from individuals associated with Dedeté recall that the nature of the caricature was recognized during the publication process. Copies reportedly circulated in parts of Havana before distribution was halted, with the remainder of the edition subsequently destroyed.

Inside are numerous cartoons, illustrations and satirical pieces by members and contributors of the celebrated Dedeté circle, providing a fascinating snapshot of Cuban graphic humor and social commentary during the 1980s.
