Original 1897 Jamaica One Penny issued during the reign of Queen Victoria, an appealing late-19th-century coin from British colonial Jamaica.
Struck by the Royal Mint in London in cupro-nickel, the obverse features the diademed portrait of Queen Victoria surrounded by the legend “VICTORIA QUEEN,” while the reverse displays the historic Jamaican colonial coat of arms and “JAMAICA ONE PENNY.”
The 1897 issue had a relatively limited mintage of just 24,000 pieces.
