1961 Cuba Che Guevara Signature Banknote Set – Five Original Banco Nacional de Cuba Notes

A remarkable group of five original Cuban banknotes from the 1961 series, issued by the Banco Nacional de Cuba during the early years of the Cuban Revolution.

The set includes the 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 Peso denominations, each bearing the distinctive abbreviated “Che” signature of Ernesto Che Guevara in his capacity as President of the Banco Nacional de Cuba.

Rather than signing his conventional name, Guevara famously used the simple “Che” signature seen on these notes, making the 1961 issues especially recognizable pieces of Cuban monetary and revolutionary history.

The reverses feature elaborate historical scenes commemorating important events in Cuban history, including the revolutionary entry into Havana, the Declaration of Havana, the Granma landing and the nationalization of foreign enterprises.

Together, the five denominations form an impressive display of early revolutionary Cuban currency and provide a particularly appealing opportunity for collectors wishing to acquire several Che Guevara signature notes at once.

Condition

Circulated vintage condition.

The notes show varying degrees of age and circulation, including folds, toning, edge and corner wear, minor staining/spotting and other signs of handling consistent with their age.

The 50 Peso note has visible handwritten markings/graffiti on the reverse, which can be clearly seen in the photographs.
