1968 Cuba CDR Membership ID Booklet – Havana Named Member Photo – Revolutionary Ephemera

Original 1968 Cuban membership identification booklet issued by the Comités de Defensa de la Revolución (CDR) in Havana.

Unlike an unused organizational pamphlet, this example was actually issued to an individual member and retains the original identification photograph, membership number 368213, handwritten and typed membership information, and period organizational markings.

The booklet identifies the member with Zone 13 and the Plaza de la Revolución, Havana region, providing a direct documentary connection to the neighborhood-level organization of the CDR during the late 1960s.

Inside is an extensive section titled “Historia y Significado de los CDR”, recounting the organization's creation on September 28, 1960, followed by “Los Deberes”, outlining the responsibilities expected of CDR members.

The booklet includes numerous period cartoon illustrations accompanying instructions concerning revolutionary vigilance, work, education, public health, blood donation, agricultural production, neighborhood activities and other responsibilities. The text also explicitly describes the booklet as both a means of identifying members and a guide to their duties.

A particularly evocative piece of original Cuban documentary ephemera from the first decade following the Cuban Revolution, combining personal identification, organizational history, political material and period graphic illustration in a single surviving artifact.

Condition: Heavily age-toned with substantial evidence of period use. There is dark staining and oxidation concentrated around the original binding staples, localized paper loss and tearing along the inner spine, edge and corner wear, staining, handling marks and general surface wear throughout. The identification photograph and membership information remain present and the principal printed contents and illustrations remain legible.
