1984 Havana Theatre Festival Original Bookmark – Cuba José Martí

Original Cuban commemorative bookmark from the Festival de Teatro de La Habana 1984 (Havana Theatre Festival).

Printed in red on textured cream-colored cardstock, the bookmark features the festival emblem and the quotation attributed to Cuban writer and national figure José Martí:

“En teatro como en todo se puede crear en Cuba.”

The 1984 Havana Theatre Festival was held January 19–30 and brought together Cuban and international theatrical groups during an important period in Cuba's performing arts history.

This surviving piece of festival ephemera retains its original burgundy-colored cord and provides an unusual tangible connection to Havana's cultural and theatrical life during the 1980s.

Original Cuban cultural ephemera from this period—particularly small-format material such as bookmarks, invitations, programs and other items intended for festival participants or attendees—can be considerably more difficult to encounter than the larger posters produced for cultural events.

Condition: Vintage condition with age-related toning, light surface marks and minor handling wear. The red printing remains strong and legible. Faint traces of printing or stamping are visible on the reverse. Original cord remains attached. Please review photographs for condition.
