Antique Cuban postcard featuring a historic view of the interior of Castillo del Morro at Santiago de Cuba, from a photograph by noted photographer J. Murray Jordan.

The image is captioned:

“2. Santiago de Cuba – Interior del Castillo del Morro / Interior of Morro Castle – Photo by J. Murray Jordan.”

Jordan documented Santiago de Cuba around 1899, shortly after the Spanish-American War, and surviving photographs from his Santiago series are preserved in historical collections. The original photographic image represented on this postcard dates from approximately that period, although the postcard itself may have been produced somewhat later.

The scene provides a detailed view within the historic fortifications of Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca, commonly known as El Morro, overlooking the entrance to Santiago de Cuba Bay.

The divided reverse is headed “República de Cuba – Tarjeta Postal – Union Postale Universelle” and includes the printed postal instruction “One Cent to United States and Canada.”

The card has handwritten pencil notation on the reverse but appears not to have been mailed.
