c.1910 Recuerdos de la Manigua Cuba Postcard – Capt. Luis Rodolfo Miranda – 1896

Original early 20th-century Cuban postcard from the historic “Recuerdos de la Manigua, 1895–1898” series, featuring Captain Luis Rodolfo Miranda, an officer of the Cuban Liberation Army during the War of Independence.

The printed caption on the reverse reads:

“Fotografía del Capitán Luis Rodolfo Miranda en los campos de Cuba Libre. 1896.”

The photograph reproduced on the postcard depicts the young Miranda in campaign dress during the Cuban struggle for independence. Miranda served with the Cuban Liberation Army and became associated with Major General Calixto García, serving as an aide and standard-bearer during the war.

This postcard was originally issued as part of a multi-card “Recuerdos de la Manigua, 1895–1898” booklet or postcard set. Examples from this historic series are preserved in the collections of the Library of Congress, where related cards are dated approximately c.1910.

The 1896 date refers to the photograph depicted on the card, rather than necessarily to the printing date of the postcard itself.
